Anna Marie Smith-Sabin (Merrell), also known as “Anna Banana,” was a little bit sass and a lot of sparkle. Born on May 11, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Billy Joe and Doris Merrell, she grew up in Broken Arrow, where her love for jewelry and anything that shimmered—first began.
Anna had a personality you couldn’t ignore. She could be a bit sassy, but in the most endearing way. If she wanted something, you definitely knew it. That same fire made her unforgettable. She loved to shop, hunt for treasures while thrifting, and find joy in the little things that caught her eye.
She had a deeply creative heart and a passion for arts and crafts, always keeping her hands busy making something beautiful or meaningful. Whether it was a small project or something more intricate, Anna found happiness in creating. She also had a love for cruising and spent time traveling the world, making many friends along the way. No matter where she went, she left an impression and a connection behind.
After retiring from Home Depot, she settled in New Port Richey, Florida, where she continued enjoying cruises, family meals, and time with the people and fur babies—she loved most. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was especially devoted to her beloved dogs, we find comfort in imagining her reunited with her cherished companions, Fannie and Bruzier.
Anna passed on April 29, 2026, in Tarpon Springs, Florida, after several weeks of serious health challenges.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Sabin; her daughter, Tina Shannon and JR; her granddaughter, Elaine Griffith and Tyler; her great-grandson, Dawson Griffith; her sisters, Patricia Mills and Bruce, and Connie Wilson and Woodrow; and her brother, Billy Merrell and Brenda. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Anna will be remembered for her sass, her sparkle, and her ability to turn even an ordinary day into something a little more interesting. A family gathering will be planned at a later date.
