Anne Haile Burks Turpin Farmer died peacefully and has joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from her Clearwater Beach, FL home on October 12, 2022. Anne was born October 15, 1930, at home in Bedford, VA. She is the daughter of Winston Watts Burks and Anna Haile Burks who preceded her in death and is survived by her sisters: Elizabeth Burks Clarkson, Mary Burks Pipes and her husband The Rev. Noland Pipes and sister-in-law Eugenia Alderson Burks.
Anne was predeceased by her husband William Key Turpin and her beloved brother Winston Watts Burks, Jr. Their children are William Watts Turpin and wife Ann Leavesley-Turpin and Rebekah Winston Turpin Trexler and her husband Michael Steven Trexler. She was “Mammah” to grandchildren: Jennifer Trexler and her husband Mark Chain, Jeffrey Trexler, Elizabeth Turpin Jennings and her husband Andrew Jennings and Philip Lawrence Turpin. Her great grandchildren are Nicholas Eric Trexler, Haile Anna Chain and Tristin Chain.
Anne was married to Donald Farmer for over 30 years and is survived by him. She enjoyed adding three stepsons to her life: the late Warren Todd Farmer, Timothy David Farmer and wife Cathy Bowman Farmer, Tracy Brian Farmer and wife Lillian Martinez Farmer. She was “Mammah” to grandchildren: Kristin Gail Farmer, Kiley Farmer Fisher and her husband Kevin Fisher, Cody Bryan Farmer and Carly Gail Farmer. Anne was predeceased by Troy David Farmer. Her great granddaughter is Declynn Nicole Fisher. The family dogs were all special to Anne.
Anne attained her undergraduate teaching degree from Lynchburg College and received a master’s degree in elementary counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her career as an educator included teaching in Lynchburg City Schools and Henrico County Schools where she was a teacher and guidance counselor.
Anne spent her retirement years traveling extensively, while living part of each year in Lynchburg, VA and Clearwater Beach, FL. She was a member of various clubs: Daughters of the American Revolution, The Woman’s Club of Lynchburg, and Clearwater Community Woman’s Club. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA and Chapel by the Sea in Clearwater Beach, FL.
A memorial service and interment will be held on a future date at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bedford, VA. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, PO Box 695, Bedford, VA 25423.
