Arnold James McDonald Sr

Arnold James (AJ) McDonald, Jr., age 71, passed away after a traggic accident on November 22, 2024.

Born on July 25, 1953, AJ was the son of the late Arnold Sr (Mac) and Constance (Trynor) McDonald. He grew up attending Catholic schools in Portland and later served in the 101st Airborne. AJ was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to family. As a skilled contractor, he worked both independently and alongside his brother Jimmy. The two shared a close, unshakeable bond throughout their lives.

AJ had a wonderful sense of humor, always making people laugh and bringing joy to those around him. He lived with his sister Linda for many years before retiring to Florida together last month. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and he had a tradition of waking up the children in his family to celebrate Santa’s arrival just moments after Santa had gone up the chimney.

In his spare time, AJ was an active member of AA in both Maine and Florida, finding solace and support in his community. He will be remembered for his kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for his family.

AJ was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. He leaves behind his children, Audra Fitzsimmons of Westbrook, Maine, Arnold (AJ) McDonald III of Englewood, Florida, and Robert McDonald of Englewood Florida, his siblings Blanche Klisiewicz of Northport Florida, and her husband John, Linda McDonald of Englewood Florida, James (Jimmy) McDonald and his wife Lorraine of Casco Maine and Northport Florida, Ann McDuffie of Standish, Maine, Bessie St. Pierre of Northport,Florida and her husband Freddie ,and Katherine McDonald of Standish Maine; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will all miss him dearly.
He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Michael McDonald as well as his nephews James McDonald, Edmund McDonald, Dennis Kennedy, and Shawn McKeough Jr.

A memorial service will be planned at a future date to allow the family time to make arrangements to lay AJ to rest alongside his parents in South Portland, Maine. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace, knowing he was cherished by so many.
