David Earl Hetrick

David E. Hetrick, 84, of Tierra Verde, FL passed away on September 6, 2022, at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Fremont, OH, son of the late Earl and Peg Hetrick. He is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 39 years, Barbara; his brothers, Jon (Doris) and Jim (Penny) Hetrick; family members, Judy (Rick) Rayborn and Jim (Jackie) Oing; and several nieces and nephews.

In 1998, David retired from Owens Community College after a career in higher education where he worked as a counselor. Other highlights of David’s career include work as a Lutheran pastor, a rehabilitation counselor, and a hospital chaplain at St. Anthony’s hospital. After leaving Owens, David and Barbara moved to the St. Petersburg, FL area, which has been home ever since.

David enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing golf, boating, and reading. He was known for his infectious laugh, his zest for life, and his caring and compassion for others.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Petersburg Country Club, 2000 Country Club Way South, St. Petersburg, FL, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life. Memorial donations may be made online to SuncoastHospice.org or mailed to Suncoast Hospice Foundation at 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33706.

    I knew Dave when I worked at Owens from 1983-1999.
    He was a sweet generous man with a great disposition.

    Dear Barb: very sorry to learn of Dave’s passing. We were both administrators at Owens College. I retired one year after Dave. Did not know you retired to aFlorida. So did we. We are south of Jacksonville at a retirement community. We have 4 great grandchildren living with our grandson at DeLand. Not far from you. We have a son living in Orlando.
