Diego Nahuen Herrera Fernandez

11/22/2003 - 01/01/2024

Diego Nahuen Herrera Fernandez (aka Adego)

On the morning of 1/1/2024, Diego passed away at Advent Health Pinellas Hospital in Tarpon FL as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident the evening of 12/31/2023. Diego was 20 years old.

Diego Fernandez was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on November 22, 2003. He was the son of Yennyfer Fernandez Galdos.

Diego was an extremely loving young man that would light a room with his smile, fearless spirit, and witty humor. He had a sweet personality that everyone fell in love with. The combination of his illuminating smile and personality often got brownie points with most teachers and people that had the pleasure of meeting him.

He was an avid soccer player who loved water sports like wake boarding and paddle boarding. He played soccer for Evans Middle School, Evans High School and Grovetown High School while also playing in competitive Club soccer for the Aiken-Augusta Bulls and Arsenal soccer clubs.

A blind love and compassion example of Diego was on Christmas Eve 2023 he wanted Waffle House Hash Brown Bowls for dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was clear that they were understaffed and very busy, the workers looked stressed and all the empty tables were still not bussed. Diego felt for the employees and proceeded to help clear and clean tables to aid them on the busy Christmas Eve dinner time.

Diego routinely helped his siblings anytime they missed the bus, had an after school event, or they just wanted to be picked up from school. He was always there for them when called upon.

People close to him knew him as an animal lover. Especially dogs and cats. He loved playing with his dogs and kept trying to adopt our neighbor’s outdoor cat (Pickles). He frequently would try to sweet talk his parents into taking home stray kittens that he bumped into.

In High School, Diego developed a desire to become a professional welder. The desire for this field comes from his grandfather, Carlos Fernandez, who was a lifelong welder and had passed away in November 2022. Diego was attending classes in Florida to be certified as an Underwater Welder.

Diego leaves behind a loving family in the USA, Brazil, & Uruguay. Diego is survived by: His mother Yennyfer, step father Tim, siblings Gage, Giana and Gwyn, grandmother Mirtha, aunt Kara, uncle Mauro, cousins Vincenzo and Gian Franco, grandfather Tim Sr and grandmother Mimi.

His surviving family would like to thank all those who expressed their condolences and warm wishes during this time. We will all miss our Adego dearly and never forget the impact he had on our lives.

Instead of flowers or cards, Diego would have liked to help animals in need instead. If you are able, please make a donation for him to: www.projectfreedomride.org/support-pfr.html
