Jean Carol (Slater) Foster of St. Pete Beach, FL passed away on October 16th, 2024 of natural causes. Jean was born on January 26, 1931 to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Slater of Paterson, NJ. After graduating from Eastside High School in Paterson, Jean went on to study at Fairleigh Dickinson College.
In her summer during college, Jean met her husband, Edson “Bud” Foster at Point Pleasant Beach, NJ . After their first date, Bud was convinced he would marry Jean. So with much charm and some luck, they were married on June 16, 1951. Jean and Bud were soul mates and went on to have 5 children; Jill Foster (Chris Brice), Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ, Lori Foster (Gary Rotta), Norwalk, CT, Todd (Ruthie) Foster, Savannah, GA, Jody (Robert) Infanger, Siesta Key, FL and Cary (Dan) O’Connor, Seminole, FL. Jean also has 9 grandchildren; Maggie (Daniel) Farr, Brick, NJ, Chris (Kelly) Tilas, Manasquan, NJ, Kelsey (PJ) Austin, Arlington, VA, Hannah Foster, Atlanta, GA, Liam Foster, Savannah, GA, Charlie Infanger, Brooklyn, NY, Laura Infanger, Jacksonville, FL, Leslie (Brendan) Robey, Brooklyn, NY, and Elizabeth (Colin) O’Connell, Dublin, Ireland AND 7 great grandchildren, ages 12 to 2 months, with one on the way. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Bud, in 1998 and her daughter, Jill, in 2009.
Bud and Jean lived briefly in Glen Ellyn, IL before moving to Wilton, CT for 27 years until Bud retired. After retirement, they shared time in Brielle, NJ and St. Pete Beach, FL. Jean and Bud cherished life near the beach especially with family. They spent many summers renting the same cottage in Ocean Beach, NJ. Jean was a fantastic cook with a repertoire of recipes that friends and family always looked forward to. Jean was also known for her amazing hooked rug creations and her eye for decorating. She lived with the motto that a cozy home could never have too many pillows, lamps or picture frames. Despite her mother sometimes teasing her that ‘her taste was in her mouth,’ Jean’s sense of style was unmatched. She always had the right outfit and shoe for every occasion. Much like the comic strip she displayed on her fridge, she was sure to be found at “fine stores everywhere.”
Jean’s legacy is one of warmth and kindness. She was a quiet force of strength and grace as a wonderful, warm mother and welcoming friend to all. She was full of love and always there when needed most. She left a lasting impact on everyone she met and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
