Marlene “Marlie” Joan Faris

Aged: 90

“Marlie” Joan Faris, of Clearwater, FL, known for much of her life as “Noney,” passed away peacefully in her home on February 8th, 2023.

Marlie was born in Elkhart, IN on February 29, 1932, to Grace Jones Huggins and Charles L Huggins. After graduating from Elkhart High School, she attended Indiana University before marrying William D Hughes and starting a family.

Marlie was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Jones of Elkhart, IN, and her second husband, Philip W Faris of Falls Church, VA. Loving mother to Lindsey Nakashima (Thomas) of Floyd, VA, John Hughes (Diane) of Coarsegold, CA, Susan Hughes of Bradenton, FL, grandmother to Lida Hughes, Will Hughes, Madina Nakashima, step-mother to Phil Faris (Pat), John Faris (Linda), and Tom Faris (Lori).

Marlie had a great love of learning. She was a gifted portrait and landscape artist who pursued that passion for the greater part of her life. Her other creative outlets were numerous, among them the art of painted finishes, which she studied at the Isabel O’Neil Studio Workshop in NYC and The Day Studio in San Francisco. Marlie loved her family, loved to laugh, had a deep spiritual life, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, loved to travel in her earlier years, and had many beloved and lifelong friends.
