Peter Ernst Bernhard Paul Schruender was born December 23, 1936 in Muenster, Germany, to Kaufmann Peter Schruender and Ilse Schaberg Schruender. He was the youngest of three children in the family and grew up in Muenster, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 and settled in Chicago Illinois. He referred to Chicago as his U.S. hometown. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Shufford-Schruender for 36 years. He passed away quietly, at home on June 10, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his stepdaughter Tiffany Valerie, and son-in-law Lozenzie Valerie. He was a proud “grandpa” and devoted grandfather to grandsons Anthony and Evan Valerie.

He worked in the hotel industry for over thirty years, starting as a busboy and retiring as a regional vice president over hotel operations in1987. After leaving hotel operations, Peter founded Mascor Publishing , a mail-order company selling books, tapes, and shareware to clients throughout the U.S. and internationally. He attended Roosevelt University in Chicago while employed full-time. He enlisted as a reserve in the Army National Guard of Illinois in 1959 and later served in New York.

Peter worked tirelessly to build his career, then his own business. As an employee, he was a mentor to subordinate younger employees, and later a supportive and challenging boss to his own employees. He was always fair-minded and respectful of the rights others.

Peter grew up during World War II in Germany, so he understood struggle and appreciated kindness. He grew up playing soccer in the streets as a child and soccer remained the only sport in which he held any real interest.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Carla Schruender and Ilse Cohans.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his guidance, wit, and dry humor. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 5:00 pm, 20186 Passagio Dr, Venice, Fl . 34293
