Robert Richard Capp

Robert Richard Capp 78, passed away May 20, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida after a long battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents Earl Capp and Edna (Richard) Capp, a brother Donald Capp, and a sister Marilyn Eden. He is survived by his wife of 56 yrs Sandra (Smith) Capp, a son Michael (Kristin) Capp, 8 grandchildren, a cousin and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan January 15, 1946 and graduated from Portage Central High School in 1964. He continued his education at Western Michigan University where he received BS and MBA degrees. He served with the U.S. Army 1968-1970, most of that time in Vietnam and was very proud of serving his country.

After his discharge from the Army, he taught accounting at Parsons Business School in Kalamazoo for several years and then worked for over 30 more years as an accountant, most of the time at Fibre Converters in Constantine, Michigan.

From the time he was a young boy he had a passion for fishing and spent countless hours on the water.

While living in Michigan,he spent many hours coaching and umpiring his sons sports teams. After retiring to Florida, he continued his love of sports by umpiring Little League games where the boys playfully called him “the old man”.

He was also very active in The American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Lee Hospital Military Support Group and his churches in Michigan and Florida.

To honor the families wishes there will be no funeral. To honor Bob’s wishes he will be buried at Sarasota National Cemetery with a private burial. Please celebrate Bob’s memory by remembering your spent with him or make a contribution to the charity of your choice.
