In Loving Memory of Rose Pitney
It is with heavy hearts and immense love that we share the passing of Rose Pitney, our devoted wife, mother, Ginga, daughter, sister, and all-around amazing human being. Rose passed away on August 12, 2025, at 11:53 p.m. at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida, surrounded by her adoring family. She was born on August 11, 1948, in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Joe Ben (1923–1995) and Delecia (1922–2005) Abila. From the very beginning, her bright spirit and loving heart touched everyone she met.
Rose faced an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer with unmatched courage and grace, fighting with all her strength until the very end. Though her time here was far too short, her life was rich in love, laughter, and connection.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Esmedia and Madeline (both of whom passed in childhood), Annabelle Applegate (1950–2017), and her brothers Ben (1947–2023) and Jerry (1957–2011).
Rose had a gift for making friends wherever she went—never missing an opportunity to strike up a conversation with a stranger or to feed the wild critters who visited her yard. She had a quirky and joyful love of collecting ceramic chickens in their nests and cherished every single piece of artwork created by her grandchildren.
Rose leaves behind her beloved husband of 58 years, David Pitney; her son, Derek (DJ) Pitney, and his sons, Dalton and Jake; her daughter, Deidra, and her husband, Gene, and their three children, Logan, Gunnar, and Faron. She is also survived by her siblings Darlene Bilyeu, Larry Abila, and Robert Abila, as well as her cherished cats, Radar and Tumbalina. Her love extends beyond her immediate family to a wide circle of friends, relatives including many cousins, nieces/nephews, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. A celebration of Rose’s life will be planned at a later date in Florida and in Colorado and will be communicated shortly!
