Sarah Nelson

12/16/1972 - 03/10/2022

Sarah Nelson, affectionately known as Sarah Lou, passed on to the next stage of existence on March 10th, 2022, at the age of 49. Sarah was born in Iowa to Christina Waag Kenkel and was subsequently adopted by Kathy and Karl Nelson and brought into their family home on January 5th, 1973. She is survived by all of her parents, her brother David and his wife Sara, aunt Suzanne. She’s also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as countless friends and sadly her furbaby, Gracie Girl.

A force of nature few fully understood, our girl was a kind soul with a huge heart and a fearless spirit. She often surprised those close to her with gifts or trinkets unique to each person or would give you a snappy nick-name which usually stuck (right, Hoff?). She loved all her friends and family so much and yearned to spend her time with each one any time she wasn’t putting in work at a job. Sarah was nearing the age of 50 but she really didn’t like that fact. She behaved like a person still in her 30s even though her body sometimes betrayed her and felt to her more like that of an 80-year old. Sarah had a fast wit and sassy attitude, and her infectious smile always brightened a room. S

he struggled with depression and physical troubles but still wanted to make others around her happy and was a true fighter for the underdogs. She was an avid gardener and would often work for friends and family, helping make their yards stunning sanctuaries. Sarah had a great love of animals, the Colorado Rockies, and Estes Park as well as a love of camping along Florida beaches with her local friends and framily (that’s not a typo). We will greatly miss you, Sarah, and hope you have your angel wings to help you watch over those of us left behind. Fly free, sweet friend.
